Richmond Riverfront Plan - 3rd Public Forum

The Department of Planning and Development Review, along with the consultant team from Hargreaves Associates, held the third Public Forum on the Richmond Riverfront Plan on December 13, 2011 at 6:00 pm at the Virginia War Memorial, 621 S. Tue., Dec. 13: Healthy Waters : Healthy Communities: Bellemeade Community Open House

The Healthy Waters : Healthy Communities Bellemeade Community Open House will take place Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Bellemeade Elementary School (2409 Webber Avenue, Richmond, VA) Map

Bellemeade Walkable Watershed Project: The Bellemeade neighborhood includes a creek that could offer park space and activities for residents. During this open house ideas from students, residents and community members will be shared about how to improve the creek and unite the neighborhood around the new Oak Grove Elementary School. Ideas for the neighborhood will be posted in the school cafeteria to view and discuss.

Please come and provide input on these ideas to:
• Slow, infiltrate and clean rain water.
• Improve walking routes to the community center and new school.
• Connect the neighborhood to the creek, the regional trail and the James River.
• Create outdoor education opportunities.
• Develop a sense of community centered around the new school and the watershed.

A project overview, including a presentation by 5th grade students will be held at 4 p.m. Snacks will be provided & families are welcome!

Tue., Dec. 13 - Third Public Forum on the Richmond Riverfront Plan

The Department of Planning and Development Review invites members of the public to attend the third Public Forum on the Richmond Riverfront Plan that takes place Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 6:00 pm Virginia War Memorial (621 S. Belvidere St.) Map

The Consultant Team from Hargreaves Associates will present a draft plan that outlines the overall design concept for Richmond’s riverfront, followed by an opportunity for public comment.

The draft plan will describe public realm improvements, emphasizing pedestrian and bike connections, transportation corridors, and identification of anticipated future private development, with a prioritized plan for implementation.

The presentations from the first and second forums are available on the
Department of Planning and Development Review’s webpage.

Parking is available at the Virginia War Memorial, the adjacent Virginia Housing Development Authority, and along Second Street.

The Virginia War Memorial will be open at 5:15 for anyone who would like to arrive early to see the facility and exhibitions.

Richmond Riverfront Plan - 2nd Public Forum

The City of Richmond held the second Public Forum on the Richmond Riverfront Plan on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:00 PM at the Virginia War Memorial.

Building on the inventory and analysis of initial site conditions in the project area and input from the public, the Consultant Team from Hargreaves Associates has developed initial strategic options that address the recognized development opportunities and constraints. The project team presented these options followed by a public dialogue on alternative growth scenarios, preferences, and priorities for Richmond's riverfront.

The design alternatives present the fundamental characteristics of pursuing different growth scenarios that may include:
* status quo,
* a recreation and cultural tourism lead strategy,
* an ecology lead strategy,
* a transport, urban design and place-making lead strategy,
* a development market lead strategy.

Public input will help to guide the development of the draft plan that will be presented at a third public forum on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.

City Hosts 2nd Public Forum on the Richmond Riverfront Plan

The City of Richmond invites the public to the second Public Forum on the Richmond Riverfront Plan on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:00 PM at the Virginia War Memorial, located at 621 South Belvidere Street near the Lee Bridge. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Call for Artists for Manchester District Courthouse Project

The City of Richmond Public Art Commission is seeking qualified artists to create commissioned outdoor artwork for the Manchester District and Community. The selected site is located on the grounds of the newly renovated and expanded Manchester Courthouse along Richmond's bustling Hull Street. The total purchase budget for this project is $120,000. More than one piece of art may be selected.

There will be a pre-submission meeting on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at Manchester District Courthouse Plaza at the corner of 9th & Hull Streets in Richmond, Virginia.

Richmond Riverfront Plan

The Department of Planning & Development Review and Hargreaves Associates held the first of three Public Forums on the Richmond Riverfront Plan on September 14, 2011, and presented the initial analysis of site conditions. The purpose of the meeting was to define key issues, identify constraints and opportunities that will have a bearing on the development of the plan and initiate public dialogue to help further define the issues and prioritize goals for Richmond's riverfront.
